The Rise of Role-Playing Games (RPG)

Role-playing games (RPG) are the ‘in’ thing among the youth today. Actually, this has been the case in the last five years or so. Here in Manila, not all homes have a computer. That’s the reason why internet cafes have mushroomed like crazy in the city. That’s also the reason why the RPG trend has been sustained, even flourishing at that. If you’re a parent of a ten-year old boy, now you could probably guess where your son goes to after class.

Photo from http://tvtropes.org

One of the more popular RPG these days is the DEUS EX. According to Wikipedia, it’s “a cyberpunk-themed action role-playing game developed by Ion Storm Inc. and published by Eidos Interactive in 2000, which combines gameplay elements of first-person shooters with those of role-playing video games.” Cool game, eh?

I believe my brother has played it before, spending most of his allowance on internet cards than food. He seems to be more interested in girls now, but that’s a different story. I remember he once asked me to get him a Microsoft XBOX as birthday present because he wanted to play DEUS EX at the comforts of our home. But the frugal me didn’t give in to his request and instead, just gifted him with a new mobile phone.

If you’re really into RPG like the one I mentioned above, I suggest you invest in it by buying your own game. There are many online shops that sell them. Just make sure you deal with a legit one so you don’t end up wasting your money.

Infant Nutrition: The Benefits of Alpha Protein

Infant nutrition is crucial to every newborn's health and well-being. Children are lucky these days because science and technology are continually advancing which pave the way to the development of new food sources, preventive measures and medical treatments that help strengthen their immune system for optimum health. One good example in this direction is alpha protein.

Alpha Protein Proven to Improve Infant’s Long-Term Health

Cases of long-term health problems like obesity, cardiovascular ailments, and insulin resistance have been increasing year after year. These have prompted medical professionals to look beyond medical treatments and seek effective preventive measures. Infant nutrition, particularly protein intake during the early stages of infancy, has been identified in strengthening or weakening a person’s long-term health.

Controlled random examinations in preterm and term infants cited by the research paper, “Early origins of cardiovascular disease. Is there a unifying hypothesis?” by Lucas Singhal, proved that “early nutrition has a major impact on long-term health including cognitive function, bone health, and risk factors for cardiovascular disease.”

Dr. Atul Singhal, a professor of Pediatric Nutrition and deputy director of the University College London, explained in a forum that the long-term growth and development of infants depended not just on the quantity of nourishment they receive but on the quality as well. He also heads the Clinical Trials and Cardiovascular Nutrition group at the MRC Childhood Nutrition Research Centre’s Institute of Child Health at University College London, which researched on “The Importance of Protein for Long-term Health.”

Although a high protein intake may improve and accelerate young infants’ growth, parents should focus on the quality of protein they feed their babies. “While a higher protein intake has short-term advantages for growth, adverse programming by high protein intake and faster growth suggest that the optimum nutrition of infants is more complex than simply ‘more is better,’” said Dr. Singhal.

Alpha protein or á-lactalbumin is beneficial to the overall health of infants. Unlike other whey-based proteins, alpha protein is easily digested by babies and lessens the possibility of vomiting, spitting up, or food intolerance of babies. This important protein helps improve the kidney function of babies and the absorption of essential minerals like zinc.

Alpha protein also enhances babies’ sleep patterns and appetites. It contains helpful amino acids with tryptophan which also enhance the disposition or mood of children. Children who are given alpha protein are healthier and stand to have more enduring health benefits.

To find out more about alpha protein and what in can do for your baby, ask your trusted pediatrician.

Yes, you heard that right. The FOX channel is now here, with the Philippines as the first Southeast Asian country to launch it. Cool, huh? More details after the jump...

PRESS RELEASE
merican TV series are such big hits in the Philippines that it really was just a matter of time for the world’s No. 1 United States TV series channel to come to South East Asia (SEA). In several other Asian countries such as Japan, FOX has already emerged as the no. 1 channel on primetime in all cable networks in 2008 and 2009, according to average rating (RVCS2.0). Meanwhile, FOX has dominated local pay-TV markets as the No.1 channel in the western TV series genre in Korea for three consecutive years since 2007.

Finally, FOX Channel, home to some of US’s biggest hits like Prison Break, The Simpsons, and Lie to Me, is now available in the Philippines, making the country the first in South East Asia to launch the channel through Sky Cable Channel 50. This easily fulfills one item in the New Year’s wish list of TV fanatics who have been clamoring for the channel to make its present felt here with its top-rating series.

FOX is famous for headlining the best and the latest US series on its channel. It has a distinct identity of being bold, contemporary, irreverent, and cool which lay out well for its young to mid-age audience. The channel’s audacious personality is epitomized by its popular programs which are “SO FOX”. Its programs comfortably complement its viewers.

Catering more to a younger crowd with an intelligent yet dynamic taste, as well as the trendy, the edgy, and the outgoing, FOX now brings the same entertainment that the Philippines will surely enjoy. Among the favorites from FOX are Prison Break, The Simpsons and Lie to Me.

Prison buddies
Prison Break Season 4: Monday to Friday at 9 p.m.
Prison Break, now on its final season, has fugitive brothers Lincoln and Michael working for the government to retrieve a device that contains information on an advanced renewable power cell—a deal the brothers struck with Homeland Security agent Don Self to get their freedom or find themselves back in jail.

Tell the truth
Lie to Me: Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m.
Another to watch out on FOX is the Emmy-nominated drama Lie to Me, which is about a former police officer, Dr. Cal Lightman, who doubles as a “human lie detector,” an expert in reading facial and body language that gives away deception.
Opening up his own agency, the Lightman Group, he hires out his private investigation and crime solving services to government agencies, law enforcement, and other private clients.

With the help from his partners, clinical psychologist Dr. Gillian Foster and researcher Eli Loker, Cal explores wildly varying cases, bringing him face-to-face with some radical and often dangerous cases. But whatever the challenge or cost it may be, he’s only interested in one thing – the truth.

Some kind of a family
The Simpsons Season 20: Monday to Friday at 7 p.m.
The Simpsons is a regular hit with unprecedented success that span two decades as TV’s most successful animated series ever. Celebrating their 20th anniversary, viewers are assured of funnier punch lines from the family we all came to know and love. In this season’s kick-off episode, Homer takes up bounty hunting for extra money while Marge mistakenly takes a job at an erotic bakery.

In other episodes, Bart meets his doppelganger, Simon Woosterfield, a member of the richest family in Springfield, and Lisa infiltrates a convent in order to steal back Maggie who was accidentally taken in by nuns.

Other A-list celebs lending their voices this season include Denis Leary, Brian Grazer, Robert Forster, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Kanye Vs Taylor Video Game Free Download

Remember Kanye West's outburst at the 2009 MTV VMAs last Sunday? Some genius programmer felt for Taylor Swift and created a video game called Kanye Versus Taylor. It's a flash game that's very easy to play. You just have to prevent Kanye West from interrupting Taylor Swift's speech through the space bar of your computer's keyboard.

I've tried the Kanye Vs Taylor Flash Game and loved it. I wonder if there's a free download of it online, though. :)
